Bank Ekspor Indonesia (BEI) is a state owned bank that was established on 18 August 1999 through Government Legislation no. 37/1999. Its vision is to become a trusted Export Credit Agency that supports the welfare of the nation whilst the mission is to support Indonesia's international trade and to increase exporter competitiveness in the global markets by providing various financing facilities from pre-shipment to post-shipment as well as advisory services.

As international trade income are vital to the economic growth, the government of Indonesia intends to transform BEI from commercial bank into an Exim Bank as the government's objective is to promote exports performance in the global market. The aims of Exim bank establishment are to develop and facilitate export markets, stimulate international trade, secure strategic resources, promote international cooperation, maintain and improve international competitiveness in more effective and efficient manner. The Indonesian Exim Bank Act is expected to be passed in 2008.
