Seminar On SME Financing Held In Tunis
As part of the continuous process of interaction among G-NEXID members, a seminar on SME Financing was held in TUNIS, during January 30-31, 2009. The Seminar was organized by one of the G-NEXID members, BFPME, Tunisia, in collaboration with G-NEXID Secretariat and UNCTAD.
Main objective of the Seminar was to share information and experience on the opportunities and challenges faced by SMEs, particulalry in the present scenario of global financial crisis and measures taken by DFIs/Banks for helping the SMEs to tap the opportunities and overcome the challenges. Many members of G-NEXID participated in the Seminar. Major topics covered in the Seminar are:
- Importance of SME growth and challenges faced.
- SME financing in the global context.
- SME lending strategy, approach, risk management and best practices in SME lending.
- SME financing - discussions and experience sharing among members including interactions on LOAN.COM
Presentations in the Seminar were made by many global organizations specializing in SME financing. The International Network for Small and Medium Enterprises [INSME] made a presentation on 'Financing Innovative Projects - Challenges and Opportunities'. A presentation on 'The Opportunities and challenges of supporting SME development' was made by Andean Development Corporation, one of the member institutions of G-NEXID. Berne Union made a presentation on 'SME support in the Global Financial Crisis.' A presentation on 'Accounting and Financial reporting guidelines for Small and Medium Enterprises' was made by UNCTAD. Presentations were also made by African Development Bank, Exim Bank of India, Afrexim Bank and Exim Bank of Romania. A session on experience sharing was enthusiastically participated by many G-NEXID members where useful contributions were made by BFPME, Tunisia, PTA Bank, Industrial Development Bank of Kenya and Development Bank of Zambia.
